Gettin’ a Little Noirish on My B Day

Hello to all my Followers, Those I’m Following, and All Curious Visitors,

To cap off my Birthday today, I’m viewing the Blu Ray debut of the Japanese Film Noir I Am Waiting.

Now while Akira Kurosawa did his odes to the Noir genre with Drunken Angel and Stray Dog in the late 1940’s, it was film studio Nikkatsu in 1957 that would recreate the memorable tropes, characters, motifs, mood, and stories of the genre that spawn a decade long film craze in Japan.

The story is simple: an ex boxer turned restaurant owner saves a woman from committing suicide, and later learns the mobster ex-boyfriend she’s running from may be behind the disappearance of his brother. A solid example of the Noir style in a new age, and well worth checking out.

The Blu Ray from Radiance Films is Region B locked, so anyone curious to check the film out will need an All-Region/Multi-Region player to view it, or check out the DVD from the Criterion Collection set Nikkatsu Noir.
